Historical Profile
Schoonover Industries, Inc was founded in 1983 as R.S. Industries by Robert Schoonover. SII was originally located on a working farm and operated from this location for approximately six months. Much of the business during the first year was subcontract work from area fabricators, among them Amf Bowling Company. To date, AMF remains one of the company's many customers, even after moving their operations from Shelby, Ohio to Richmond, Virginia.
In January of 1984 R.S. Industries purchased its first building, located at 732 Clark Street in Ashland, Ohio. In 1986 it was decided that R.S. Industries would incorporate and on May 29th became Schoonover Industries, Inc.
As business flourished, the Clark Street location became too small. A new plant site was selected on Simanton Road in late 1987 where the plant remains today. The building was enlarged and remodeled, providing SII with a main office; press, shear and tool rooms; a fabrication area; laser cell; robotic cell and shipping facilities. Additions have been made on three different occasions, the most recent in 1994 with the expansion of the Engineering Department.
During the 25 years since the company was founded, employment has grown from 1 part-time employee to approximately 28 full-time employees on three shifts. Building and equipment requirements have changed numerous times through the years, but Schoonover's philosophy of doing business remains the same as it was on the very first day:
- Superior Quality
- On-Time Delivery
- Competitive Pricing
- Customer Service and Satisfaction
